Gdynia Sailing Days - summary
Twelfth edition of Gdynia Sailing Days went into history. Sailing festival was officially ended by Wojciech Szczurek, president of Gdynia, Slawomir Nowak, secretary of state, and Richard Stachurski, Deputy Minister of Sport and Tourism.

Gdynia Sailing Days is a joint venture of the city authorities, GOSiR and Polish Yachting Association. This year included the eleven days of which ten days was racing ones. Event was organized in cooperation with: YKP, Arka, and Stal Clubs and Polish Match Tour.

 

From 14 to July 24, 373 athletes from 11 countries were sailing. The youngest were eight years old and the oldest participant crossed the "sixty."

 

Racing courses were so set that the competition on the water was perfectly visible from Gdynia beaches and seaside boulevard. The inhabitants of Gdynia and holidaymakers eager to enjoy the possibility of a closer look at sailing and sailors. Often visited at the yacht harbor, where he collected autographs, posed for photos and talked with participants in Gdynia Sailind Days. In addition, throughout the duration of the event functioned scene, which took place at the official opening ceremonies of the various races and the best decorations. Every day this place rang with the music.

 

The pioneering project was the high performance show. In that day there was a unique race. On one leg sailors from different classes faced each other. Catamarans sailed side by side, and representatives of the 49er and windsurfing with Piotr Myszka and Przemyslaw Miarczyński on the lead.

    Today in the 'VOLVO Gdynia Sailing Days” regatta village there was the closing ceremony of the regatta and the 49er and 49er FX class World Championships and Gdynia Match Cup prize giving ceremony. At the ceremony Ministry of Sport and Tourism Joanna Mucha and President of the International Sailing Federation ISAF Carlo Croce were present.

    In the MICRO Class Worlds podium belongs to the Polish crews. In the 49er & 49er FX Youth World Championships elimination round has ended and in Gdynia Match Cup semi-finals round continues. Tomorrow's races will decide who will stand on the podium.

    After the second day of elimination in the 49er and 49er FX Youth World Championships Spaniards and Finns continue to lead. At the MICRO Class Worlds first three places belong to Polish teams, and in Gdynia Match Cup also Polish competitors are leaders.

    Today in Gdynia 49er and 49er FX Youth World Championships races have started. 44 crews from 15 countries have entered the regatta - 32 male crews in 49er class and 12 female crews in 49er class FX. Competitors will compete for four days. The qualifying round began today and will last until Saturday. On Sunday there will be the final race.
